SpellPig Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 May 2026

SpellPig is a spelling game designed to make practising spelling fun. It's suitable for learners of any age. It's also built to collect as little information as possible. This policy explains, in plain terms, how SpellPig handles information when you use the app.

We've kept the policy short on legalese and long on directness. If anything below is unclear, the simplest summary is this: nothing personal leaves your device.

Who this policy applies to

This policy applies to anyone who downloads, installs, or uses the SpellPig iOS app from the Apple App Store. It applies regardless of where in the world you are located. If you do not agree with this policy, please don't use the app.

What stays on your device

When you set up SpellPig, you enter a first name, age range, and reading level. SpellPig stores those — along with progress, streaks, earned badges, session history, and gameplay preferences — on your device only. There is no SpellPig account, no SpellPig server, and none of this information is transmitted to us, sold, rented, or shared with anyone.

If you uninstall the app, this information is removed from your device by iOS as part of the standard uninstall process. You can also clear everything at any time from Settings → Reset → Reset all data, which wipes the profile, progress, badges, generated content cache, and event log on the device.

What we don't collect

To be explicit:

If you have device-level diagnostics enabled with Apple, Apple may receive standard system telemetry independent of SpellPig — that is governed by Apple's own privacy policies, not this one.

Subscriptions

If you choose to subscribe to Premium, the purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment, verifies the transaction, and receives the information required to complete it. We never see your payment card, billing address, or other payment details.

To verify your subscription status across reinstalls and across devices signed in to the same Apple ID, SpellPig integrates RevenueCat, a subscription management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated identifier and the subscription transaction details from Apple. It does not receive any profile information from SpellPig. RevenueCat operates under its own privacy policy, which you can review on its website.

You can manage, pause, or cancel your subscription at any time in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops auto-renewal at the end of the current billing period.

On-device intelligence

Some exercises (such as practice sentences) are generated using Apple Intelligence, which runs on your device. Generated content is stored on your device and is not sent to our servers, because there are no SpellPig servers. The behaviour of Apple Intelligence is governed by Apple's own terms and privacy policy.

Third-party services

SpellPig keeps third-party services to a minimum. The only ones involved are:

That's it. There are no advertising networks, no analytics providers, no social network integrations, and no marketing tools.

Security

We don't store your information on a server, so there is no SpellPig database for an attacker to breach. Information stored locally on your device is protected by iOS sandboxing and by whatever device-level protections you've enabled (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID, full-disk encryption). You are responsible for keeping your device secure.

No method of electronic storage is ever 100% secure. While we have designed SpellPig to keep its surface area small, we cannot guarantee absolute security, and the app is provided as is without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the extent permitted by law.

Your rights

Because we don't collect or store your information on any server, there is nothing for us to look up, export, correct, restrict, or delete on our end. You retain full control of all SpellPig data simply by controlling the device on which the app is installed:

Where applicable law (such as the GDPR in the UK and EU, or the CCPA in California) gives you additional rights, you may exercise those rights against us as well, but in practice the answer is the same: we do not hold any of your personal information.

Younger learners

If a younger learner is using SpellPig, a parent or guardian should set up the profile. Because the app stores everything locally and does not send personal information to a server, we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone — child or adult.

International users

SpellPig works the same wherever you are. Because we do not transmit personal information off your device, no international data transfer takes place when you use the app.

Links to other services

This policy and the app may reference third-party services such as Apple and RevenueCat. We are not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or terms of any third-party service. When you interact with one of those services, that service's own privacy policy and terms apply.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the app or in applicable law. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes may also be announced inside the app. Continued use of SpellPig after a policy update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
